When to pack

Many families aim to have the bag ready around week 36, earlier if your care team expects an early arrival. Keep it somewhere obvious, and tell your partner where it lives.

Two habits that pay off: keep the car seat installed and checked before the big day, and pack a phone charger with a long cable. Hospital outlets are never where you want them.

This list is adapted for US families from public health guidance on packing for labor and birth. It is deliberately neutral: whether you plan to nurse or formula feed, both are covered without judgment.

Education, not medical advice

Packing lists are the easy part. For anything about your health or your baby's health, your own care team comes first.
